PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS
Your Living Pot has a drainage hole covered with mesh to prevent the soil from falling out. Check to ensure the mesh is in place.
Carefully remove the plant/plants that you are going to plant from their current pot. It is important to remove as much of the current soil from the roots as possible being gentle in the process. This will ensure that the plants will get the maximum benefit from their new soil.
Fill the Living Pot partially with package #1 (Bonsai Jack Soil) and then put your succulents in. This will help you see how your plant/plants fit in the pot and what arrangement pleases you most. The plants can be rearranged gently until you are happy with the placement. If necessary, add a small amount of Bonsai Jack until you are pleased with the height of the plants in relationship to the edge of the pot. Ideally the entire plant, minus the root structure, will be above the lowest edge of the pot.
Once you are happy with the arrangement, add enough soil to completely cover the roots.
Do not add enough soil to reach the top of the lowest edge. There are two more layers of soil/toppers to add. It is important to be sure that the succulent leaves are above the top of all layers of soil/toppers to prevent rotting.
Now it’s time to add package #2 (Lava Rock Pebbles Pumice). Completely cover the soil in the Living Pot with pumice. Be sure to gently press down the pumice around the base of each succulent and the soil in general. This will help keep the succulent in place and prevent the soil from floating out of the pot when watered.
To complete your Living Pot, add package #3 (Decorative Top Dressing). As you add your top dressing, press down on the soil to help the succulent stay in place.
IMPORTANT!!! Once your succulent is potted and the top dressing is in place, let your Living Pot sit for one or two days before you water it.
This resting period is critical and will give the roots time to heal before they start soaking up water, which helps prevent root rot.
